Blackening Brass and Branches

Set of 6: Size variable

In “A corner of Fo Tan”, I used branches fallen during Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018 as both material and memory. Growing up in Fo Tan, a neighborhood nestled in the New Territories of Hong Kong, I was surrounded by mountains. Yet whenever I looked at the plants, my gaze would often land on traces of human construction. These visuals overlap, which feels uniquely Hong Kong. These fragmented views of urban nature became the everyday scenery of my upbringing.

By blackening brass and combining it with these weathered remnants of the natural world, I translate the landscape of my daily life into wearable forms. This series of six jewelry pieces records and carries the quiet moments of a place I have always called home, where the boundaries between nature and city fade into the background of daily life.
